A group of Chinese nationals arrested in Thailand for illegal immigration and alleged involvement in a call center scam.
Thai authorities, including the Chonburi Provincial Commander, Pol. Lt. Col. Prin Sripattarakunchai, and other officials from the Tourist Police, Immigration Police, and Nong Prue Police Station, conducted a raid on a luxury house worth over 10 million baht in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province on April 11, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. The raid resulted in the arrest of five Chinese nationals who had entered the country illegally. Officials also confiscated multiple electronic devices, including eight notebook computers, 12 mobile phones, and several mobile SIM cards.
The authorities received information about the illegal group’s whereabouts, leading them to the luxury home. The search found that four of the five residents had overstayed their visas. Upon examining the electronic devices, officials discovered information related to loans outside the system and debt collection calls. The names on the devices were all Chinese, leading officials to believe that the group was involved in a call center scam.
All five individuals were initially detained, with four facing allegations of overstaying and all facing accusations of working without permission. The authorities will continue to investigate the matter and examine the evidence for any additional wrongdoing. Further updates on the case will be provided as they become available.
