A foreign man driving against traffic in central Pattaya on May 4, 2025, sparked local frustration after refusing to comply with road rules and hurling profanities at bystanders who tried to intervene.
A video clip released by the Facebook page Travel Safely 168 showed the man, described as large in stature, steering his car the wrong way into Soi 13/2 off Second Road in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province. The narrow alley is designated as a one-way street, prohibiting vehicles from entering against the flow of traffic.
In the video, several Thai residents—including a motorcyclist—attempted to warn the driver of his violation. Rather than complying, the man responded aggressively, reportedly shouting explicit language such as “fuck you” at those alerting him to the traffic rule. A local vendor who witnessed the incident told reporters the man appeared agitated and on the verge of confrontation, though he eventually reversed his vehicle out of the alley, avoiding further escalation.
The incident unfolded rapidly, preventing anyone nearby from contacting police before the man left the scene. Following the release of the video clip, numerous online commentators expressed disapproval of the man’s conduct and called for authorities to investigate. Several comments urged stricter oversight of driving behaviors among foreign tourists in Pattaya, which remains a key destination for international visitors.
Officials and other bystanders were present during the event but did not play a significant role in the resolution.
