Tourist brawl adds strain to Pattaya’s nightlife reputation

A street fight involving foreign tourists disrupted Pattaya’s nightlife on May 6, injuring three individuals and prompting a police investigation as authorities work to manage growing concerns over tourist-related disturbances in the city.

The altercation took place outside a bar on Soi Chalermprakiat 25 in Nongprue, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Three foreign nationals sustained minor injuries but declined both medical assistance and to provide statements to the responding officers, according to a report by Pattaya News.

Despite their unwillingness to cooperate, Pattaya police initiated an inquiry into the incident. Led by Police Colonel Anek Sathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police, alongside Pol. Lt. Col. Arun Saphanon and Tourist Police units, investigators reviewed surveillance footage and pursued various leads to establish the circumstances of the fight.

Authorities later identified those involved as German national Dominik Leupold, British national Jamie Lee Rocca, Swedish national Sture Mattias Arnkvist, Cambodian national Miss Py Pech, and Hallam Zachary Kalen from Australia, who is believed to have instigated the dispute. Police have stated they intend to question all parties involved and proceed based on available evidence.

This recent altercation is part of a broader pattern of tourist-related disturbances in Pattaya. On April 27, two British men clashed with Thai locals near a convenience store following a traffic incident with a motorcycle taxi driver. According to Pattaya News, after a confrontation escalated at the scene, the British nationals were required to pay 15,000 baht in compensation. The event gained public attention after video footage circulated widely on Facebook via the เจ๊มอย v+ (Jamoi v+) page.

In March, an additional incident occurred near Dong Tan Beach in Jomtien, where two groups of foreign tourists engaged in a confrontation that led to the intervention of Pattaya City Patrol officers and the Jomtien Civic Guard. While two individuals were detained and taken to Dong Tan Police Station, others reportedly fled on a scooter, evading police efforts.

The ongoing series of altercations has placed increased pressure on Pattaya authorities to manage alcohol-fueled conflicts and address concerns about the city’s reputation as a tourist destination.
