A 29-year-old Irish tourist was taken into custody in the early hours of May 7 following a violent altercation at a bar in Soi 6, a busy nightlife area off Pattaya Second Road. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage to determine the cause of the confrontation, which resulted in injuries to both bar staff and the tourist himself.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 3:19 a.m. by the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Centre. Upon arrival, rescue workers and police were informed that the suspected assailant had fled into the nearby Runway Market, which was closed at the time. The man was found approximately 100 metres from the scene with visible head injuries and was reportedly incoherent and without identification. He initially resisted medical assistance but later cooperated after police arrived.
The Irish man and his girlfriend told authorities they had been quietly drinking when a group of women and transgender individuals allegedly attacked them without provocation. However, staff at the bar presented a different account.
A 31-year-old employee named Nan claimed the couple were intoxicated and behaving disruptively. According to her, the situation escalated when the man allegedly punched a female staff member, prompting others to intervene. Nan stated she retaliated by throwing a glass at the man after being struck in the eye. Two staff members were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
The couple reportedly left the bar immediately after the altercation. Police later brought the man to Pattaya City Police Station for further questioning. Authorities urged both sides to file official complaints. A detective unit has begun examining video evidence from the bar, as reported by The Pattaya News.
Officials stated that the investigation would be conducted fairly, and legal action would be pursued against anyone found to be responsible, regardless of nationality.
