Digital Crime Clock boosts Pattaya police patrol strategy

Police in Pattaya have launched a new crime-tracking system aimed at improving patrol efficiency and curbing criminal activity, particularly during nighttime hours. Introduced in early May 2025, the initiative uses real-time data to identify patterns in criminal incidents and adapt law enforcement responses accordingly.

The tool, known as the Digital Crime Clock, is the first of its kind implemented under Thailand’s Provincial Police Region 2. It replaces traditional crime mapping methods with a mobile dashboard that collects and displays detailed incident data, including the time, date, type, and location of crimes. This digital platform helps police allocate resources more strategically, particularly in high-risk areas during late-night hours.

According to local authorities, preliminary data has already shown a reduction in reported incidents in areas previously identified as hotspots. For example, the city’s central beachfront, known for early morning assaults, has seen fewer incidents following targeted patrols scheduled between 3am and 4am.

The system also supports existing surveillance infrastructure, including facial recognition technology, enhancing the ability of officers to track suspects and monitor repeat offenders. While specific crime reduction figures were not disclosed, Pattaya police officials noted that even a small decline in incidents signals progress toward data-led policing.

The Pattaya City Police Station is the first in the region to deploy the Digital Crime Clock, with plans for expansion to neighboring provinces. The initiative aligns with national efforts to modernise law enforcement through technology under the guiding principles of trust, faith, and professionalism.

Senior figures attending the launch included Police Lieutenant General Yingyot Thepjumnong, Commander of Provincial Police Region 2, and Police Major Sittiwat Katchamat, Deputy Superintendent for Prevention.
