Police hunt suspected rapist in Pattaya after spree of attacks

Thai authorities are urgently searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting and robbing multiple women in Pattaya during a four-hour span between the evening of May 20 and the early hours of May 21, 2025. Police believe the same individual may be responsible for at least three reported attacks in different parts of the city, all involving a red-and-black Honda Wave motorcycle and a weapon.

According to police reports cited by Siam Rath Online and The Thaiger, the first attack occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on May 20. A 20-year-old barbershop employee from Udon Thani, using the alias Ms. Nok, told authorities she was approached on Pattaya Beach Road near Soi 6 by a man who communicated in broken Thai. The suspect invited her to his accommodation, then diverted the ride to an isolated area near a shopping mall in North Pattaya. There, he allegedly raped her at knifepoint before stealing her phone and belongings.

A second victim, aged 17 and from Surin province, reported a similar experience around midnight. She had been sitting on the beach near Soi 3 when the suspect, again on a motorcycle, offered her a ride, pretending to be a driver from a mobile ride-hailing app. He allegedly lured her to a secluded area, threatened her with a knife, and attempted to rape her. She managed to escape and sought help from nearby residents.

A third case was reported in the early morning hours, involving a victim who did not file an official complaint but provided consistent information to the police. She stated that a man matching the same description had also tried to assault her after deceiving her into accepting a ride. She, too, was able to flee.

On May 21, investigators from the Pattaya City Police Station escorted the two main victims to identify the locations of the attacks. Officers also reviewed CCTV footage in an effort to locate the suspect. Authorities confirmed that the women described the same attacker and said preliminary surveillance footage supports their accounts.

Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, acknowledged the pattern of incidents and urged the public to be cautious. He assured that officers are intensifying efforts to track the suspect and bring him to justice.

The attacks have sparked concerns among residents and tourists, particularly as Pattaya continues to grapple with unrelated public order issues, including recent incidents involving naked men behaving erratically in public spaces. In one of those separate cases, a Russian man escaped from a hospital and caused property damage while unclothed. Another case involved a homeless man, reportedly seen walking nude near schools, prompting demands for improved mental health services and law enforcement presence.

Police have not confirmed whether any of these incidents are related, but local officials face increasing pressure to address growing concerns about public safety in one of Thailand’s most visited coastal cities.
