On June 12, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at Huai Chan Waterfall Bridge in Khun Han District, Si Sa Ket Province, where a man and his wife reportedly jumped off the bridge in an apparent murder-suicide attempt, resulting in the wife’s death and the husband’s critical injury.
Local authorities were alerted at approximately 6:20 p.m. when community leaders reported a potential suicide at the bridge in Village No. 5, Ban Namtok Huai Chan, Tambon Huai Chan. In response, Mr. Pawich Ratwan, the Khun Han District Chief, dispatched administrative officers, alongside Pol. Col. Noppadol Thuntawisilsak, Superintendent of Khun Han Police Station, and rescue personnel to the scene
Upon arrival, rescue workers found a 36-year-old woman, referred to as Ms. A, who was gravely injured and later pronounced dead. A 38-year-old man, referred to as Mr. B, was also found at the scene with serious injuries and was transported to Khun Han Hospital for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two individuals were husband and wife, residents of Village No. 6, Ban Nong Bua, in the Non Sung Subdistrict of Khun Han District. They had three daughters together. Authorities suspect the incident stemmed from severe family stress, with Mr. B reportedly convincing his wife to jump with him in a suicide pact.
However, subsequent inquiries revealed a more disturbing motive. In an official communication (No. S.K.0718/12) sent to the Governor of Si Sa Ket Province on the same day, the District Chief cited information from the family indicating that Mr. B was under considerable emotional pressure due to allegations of sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter, who is currently in Mathayom 2 at a local school.
Fearing the legal consequences of his alleged actions, Mr. B may have sought to end his life and involved his wife in the attempt. The daughter is now under the care of the Si Sa Ket Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office. Authorities have confirmed that a more thorough investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
