Pattaya launches CPR training to boost emergency readiness

Pattaya City has launched a new emergency medical training programme aimed at enhancing public safety and boosting investor and tourist confidence in the region. On June 13, 2025, city officials introduced the initiative titled “CPR on the Beach”, which will provide basic life-saving training to local residents and tourism operators.

The training project, developed in cooperation with the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM), seeks to strengthen the city’s preparedness to respond to health emergencies, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas. The plan includes sessions in CPR, emergency communication, and basic first aid for those living and working in key tourism zones.

During a recent meeting, Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet hosted NIEM Deputy Secretary-General Paisan Konjampa and his team to review the project’s scope. Officials underscored Pattaya’s designation as a special economic zone and its global reputation as a coastal tourism hub. Given this, authorities said an effective emergency response system is critical to safeguarding both visitors and locals.

A major component of the initiative involves assessing the readiness of participating areas, which will receive certification as “Safe Communities” if they meet specific criteria. Pattaya also plans to grow its Community Emergency Volunteers network to promote safety awareness across a broader section of the public.

The plan includes upgrading emergency facilities at key locations, such as the helipad on Koh Larn, to improve response times during medical incidents. Pattaya Hospital is set to play a central role in coordinating training sessions and logistical support.

Mayor Poramet stated that the initiative reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to public safety and quality of life. “We are committed to ensuring that Pattaya remains a safe environment for everyone, and this project is an important step towards making that a reality,” he said, as reported by Pattaya Mail.

In related developments, Pattaya remains central to discussions surrounding the proposed Equal Accommodation Bill, which aims to modernise hotel and lodging laws nationwide. While advocates say the bill could support tourism growth, critics warn it might weaken safety standards and threaten informal accommodation options that play a role in cities like Pattaya.
